Our family has grown so much that most bulk items are thought of as normal sizes. In fact my older boys have commented that when they serve their missions for our church, they won't know how to cook in portions for only 2! To ease the getting into 25, or 50 lb. bags of staple foods, we've opted to keep it in buckets with screw top lids. They double as stools for the kids and I can fit a bunch of them in my pantry.
