This is the first year in about 13 years that we do not have legos on our Christmas tree. Nor do we have a bionicle "angel". About a week before we got our tree, I thought to myself, you know, I don't want this year's tree to have legos on it, and bought a $3. tiny tree for all of that. I've never reveled in a tree with ribbons, lights, and GLASS BALLS until this year. So far so good. It makes me happy, and no one has complained even a little.
One of the traditions we have adopted is not to put out any presents before Christmas Eve. --That serves 2 purposes for our family. One, Christmas morning looks like Santa really did descend on our home, one present from him, one from mom and dad, and one from the sibling who's name you drew, something from a gram or gramps and all this times 10 produces quite the sight on Christmas morning. And Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, we put a wooden manger filled with lights and white fabric under the tree, and talk about Christ the whole month. It's a beautiful reminder of why we celebrate Christmas.
